Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
