Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the deceased director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner via comments shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
