The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I said I will never coach a different club in England. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
