The President Invites Relatives of Shot Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Mourners gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and cease granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
