The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
